My Frugal Year's Guide to Financial Wellbeing
Our first ‘pay what you can’ event was hosted by special guest Clare Seal of My Frugal Year
Covid-19 has hit women’s financial health hardest, according to the London School of Economics (LSE). This is driven by them being over-represented in sectors severely impacted by lockdown and shouldering more childcare responsibilities. We knew that many in our Working Girls’ Network would be feeling the impact of Covid-19 financially, too. That’s why our first pay what you can event was hosted by special guest, Clare Seal of My Frugal Year, who ran a financial wellbeing masterclass.
Clare launched My Frugal Year in 2019, anonymously documenting her personal debt journey, following a realisation that she needed to take action to reduce her crippling £27k debt. By launching her Instagram page, and taking action to reduce her debts, she amassed a following of over 63k followers, as many of us empathised with her position. With one book now published, Real Life Money, and another one in development ‘The Real Life Money Journal’, Clare is cementing herself as an expert in the field. Grazia reviewed her book stating: ‘Her voice [is] refreshing in a world where finance and investment still feels so male-dominated.’
At our first virtual WGN Zoom event on Wednesday 30th September at 6pm we heard Clare’s story, learned ways to manage our finances, to feel empowered to save, pay-off debt or feel more confident about our financial wellbeing.
Following the event, we gave attendees the chance to win Clare’s latest book and provided a follow-up digital guide based around the event itself, so attendees could take the learnings away and put them into practice.
All profits from the tickets went to Women's Aid charity.
