Working Girls Invites the Boys: Empathy, the Organisational Superpower
Interactive talk exploring empathy as a crucial business skill that increases retention, drives innovation and supports employees’ wellbeing
Empathy is a crucial business skill that increases retention, drives innovation and supports employees’ wellbeing - however it has long been derided in traditional leadership traits and seen as 'too soft' for the tough corporate world.
Recent studies have found that managers who show and exhibit empathy increase the feelings of employees that they are respected and valued by the business. Empathy is also conducive in creating a thriving and progressive environment, with 61% of people with highly empathic senior leaders feeling that they are more innovative at work, and 76% feeling that they are more engaged across their day-to-day.
So why do we still feel many organisations and managers lack empathy?
During this one hour interactive talk, we’ll look at the importance of empathy as an organisational superpower, and aim to provide a series of tools that can help you access empathy within the workplace and create a more caring culture.
What will be covered:
● What is empathy's place in the workplace?
● Why is empathy not rewarded as a leadership trait?
● How can I access empathy appropriately?
● Where does empathy end and action begin?
We’re excited to partner with Matthew Cook to host this event, Matthew is a Culture and People specialist, co-founder at theSHIFT working with companies to design progressive systems, processes and mindsets that enable people, teams and organisations to thrive. He is also co-host of an Apple #1 Business Podcast ‘Eat Sleep Work Repeat’, alongside Bruce Daisley and Ellen C Scott.
WGN's aim has always been to create a safe and inclusive space for people who are too often under-represented, under-valued or simply not considered when it comes to business. It's important that men are part of the solution too, which is why each year we host a co-ed event so that we can share ideas and experiences. Our title uses binary gender terms and it's important to us that our non-binary friends know they are welcome at ALL WGN events.
